The Criterion Collection edition of The Argentine and

Guerrilla has been postponed to January 2010.

Criterion Collection president Peter Becker

explained the delay as follows:

"[The Che Bluray/DVD] is coming, and as you can imagine

there's a wealth of great content getting developed. We wanted

to be ready for December, but Steven Soderbergh needed time

to reconstruct some deleted scenes, and we were also able, in

what we think is going to be a controversial coup, to persuade

Che Guevara biographer Jon Lee Anderson to do commentaries

on both films, but he also needed more time to prepare. In short,

it became clear that if we delayed the release a month we would

be able to make a much better set. That's a trade we will always

make, even if it means we don't get the benefit of sales in the

holiday season, and we think that's the kind of decision our

collectors would want us to make."

Rave reviews are all over the Internet following

last October 7th screening of a rough cut of

The Wolfman in Las Vegas.

Here are some of those reviews:

"The performances in the movie were absolutely fantastic.

Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Hugo Weaving, and

Emily Blunt all delivered and really brought their characters

to life. It's always good to have great performances in a

horror/action film. Everything seems genuine and all of

the characters are very engaging. The set pieces and

cinematography are all beautifully created. There's a lot

of eye candy in this film just as far as the sets are

concerned, and I really love the atmosphere this film

created. The visuals I saw were pretty cool, although

some of them were still in progress. I imagine the

visuals will be awesome when the film is released

next year. The music is also pretty bad-ass."

"I liked Benicio and Anthony's interaction and their

characters were well played. Hugo's role was perfect

for him as Detective Aberline. I thought the special

effects were great and was anticipating the transformation

from  man to werewolf and I thought it was done very well.

It looked realistic and painful. The end result was a ferocious

werewolf that was great to watch in action terrorizing villagers,

running through the forest. Even standing upright and the way

the werewolf walked looked and seemed very natural. Lots of

scenes that change from quiet to loud that will make people

jump in their seat. I saw plenty of people personally do just that

in the theater. Also there is plenty of blood and guts which was

great. To me it was fitting and didn't seem 'over the top'. I enjoyed

this remake of Wolfman and thought it was done very well overall."

"A few jump scares and fake-outs later, and we're treated,

almost immediately, to a brutal evisceration by the Wolfman.

The aristocrat's guts are spilled into the leaves, his face slashed

with a grizzled claw, and he runs back onto the edge of his estate,

only to turn and see the face of the beast lunging down upon him.

Even this rough cut was satisfying. For starters, you really couldn't

ask for a better cast. Anthony Hopkins is a legend, and the role of

retired and fairly menacing hunter suits him well -- he's poetic and

aristocratic, and vaguely crazy in every scene. Benicio Del Toro

continues his tradition of bizarre intonations, his strange accent

explained away by an education gotten in New York. He delivers

one of this most subdued performances, though he revels in his time

spent playing Lawrence in the asylum. A great ensemble is the

cornerstone of any good film. And the wolf attacks are everything

you've been hoping for. Even if the rest of the film isn't to your fancy,

no horror fan can complain about these moments of raw fury and

brutality. The moments of gore are spread out enough through the

work as to not feel gratuitous, but the film certainly doesn't hold

back when it comes to demonstrating how much damage

this monster can do to its victims."

Rick Baker was honored with the

Jack Pierce Lifetime Achievement Award

at the Chiller-Eyegore Awards ceremony

that opened this year’s Universal Studios

Halloween Horror Nights in Hollywood last night.

When asked what the most exciting aspect

of working on The Wolfman has been for him,

Mr. Baker replied:  "I'm just excited they're making

gothic horror movies again. It's what got me into

horror. It's very cool that they're doing a movie

called The Wolfman.  It is very much an old school

gothic horror movie and I hope it does well enough

to bring those types of movies back."
