Benicio was awarded the recently created Cuban Cultural Government Tomás Gutiérrez Alea Award yesterday in Havana, Cuba, which award was given by the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC). The president of UNEAC, Miguel Barnet, told Benicio that the award is in recognition of his work.
"It's an honor to receive this award by the UNEAC and named after Tomás Gutiérrez Alea (Titone), because he has been an influence on me since I found out about Death of a Bureaucrat," Benicio said excitedly. "This award makes me feel humble and proud. I never got to know him (Gutiérrez) personally, but I had the good fortune to meet many of his disciples" and "as an artist I think we are in the same boat."
Benicio's trip overlapped with that of actors James Caan, Robert Duvall and Bill Murray, and a group of people linked to the film industry who are in Cuba for a private visit as part of a research project.
Benicio and the group were greeted yesterday by Omar González, president of the Cuban Institute of Cinema (ICAIC).
"It's a visit, I know Omar, he is a friend of mine, it is to say hello, not for any work," said Benicio.
Benicio will stay in Cuba until Sunday.

Universal Pictures is once again pushing back the release date of The Wolfman, now to February 12, 2010, due in part to visual effects work that's likely to stretch deep into the Fall. A trailer of The Wolfman is set to hit theaters on August 21, 2009,
attached to Quentin
Tarantino's
Inglourious Basterds.
Universal's marketing and distribution chief, Adam Fogelson, said the latest release change was motivated by two factors: to take advantage of a potentially bigger box office weekend, and to have more visual effects completed in time for marketing materials. Producer Scott Stuber insists the date change is no sign of a creatively-troubled production, but rather a marketing decision meant to take advantage of a three-day holiday weekend.

According to reports from the UK's Pinewood Studios, stunt rigging and wire-work specialists Extreme Locations Rigging supplied equipment for the action unit re-shoot of The Wolfman at Pinewood.
Extreme Locations Managing Director Robin Earle provided high-end technical stunt rigs, working alongside veteran filmmaker/stunt coordinator Vic Armstrong.
The re-shoot relied heavily on stunt wire work/puppetry, with each gag requiring speedy rigging and de-rigging, culminating in a major sequence by Rick English.

Criterion will release The Argentine and Guerrilla next October. The exact date has yet to be confirmed.
During an interview with the Puerto Rican newspaper Primera Hora last January 29, 2009, Steven Soderbergh said the following:
"We have a pile of scenes that did not make it to the final film that we would like to include. Also a whole mountain of investigative material that we compiled: video interviews, secret documents that have been revealed, documentary material in general. This is going to be an enormous work for someone at Criterion, but it is going to be a fantastic disc. It made me very happy to learn that we reached an agreement with Criterion, because they are the best."

Benicio visited the Bayamón Correctional Complex in Puerto Rico today to talk with Puerto Rican men and women participating in a penitentiary action project. Part of the event included a short play presented by the convicts, entitled "An experience with my friends."
When asked by one of the inmates how he felt being among of murderers, Benicio replied "I think everybody needs a second chance. I'm here to help reaffirming that one, provided that there is life, still can help society in some way, one can always improve oneself."
Benicio urged the prisoners to read as part of their rehabilitation process. In particular, he recommended
the books "The Old Man & The Sea
and "Relato De Un Naufrago (Tales Of A Castaway) Gabriel García Márquez.
