Ms. Jean Sheard, owner of the Lacock bakery,

as well as other villagers, were worried that the

filming of The Wolfman in their town would disrupt

their annual Scarecrow Festival, which is being held

from April 4 to April 20, 2008.

Ms. Sheard said: "We had been concerned about

The Wolfman being shot at the same time, but to be

honest we have not seen much of the film crews at all."

Hundreds of film fanatics descended on

Lacock today for the filming of The Wolf Man.

With a production crew of nearly 300 people

the usually tranquil National Trust village was

turned into hectic film set.

Benicio, Hugo Weaving and Emily Blunt were

all in the village filming at the Tithe Barn and

an outbuilding next to the post office.

Production member Matt Hamish said: "We

have had a really good day of filming and actually

got ahead of ourselves which never really happens.

"The public have been really good and

done everything we asked them to do.

"It's a lovely place to shoot because everywhere

you look there is something else that catches

your eye and you want to use."

Much of the filming was shot inside the Tithe Barn

where huge blocks of ice and models of dead bodies

where strewn across the floor and hanging by metal hooks.

Dozens of extras dressed in Victorian clothes

were also used in some of the exterior shots

outside the barn with Benicio.

The historic village of Castle Combe was given

a 19th century makeover this week as filming

of The Wolfman got underway.

A Wolfman publicist said: "It is all going really well.

We are very pleased with the set and all the people

in Castle Combe have been very co-operative."

They are now in their sixth week of filming

and expect to be finished in June.

Production crews from Universal Studios

have been in the village for a few days

preparing the Tithe Barn and High Street.

The one-day-shoot of The Wolfman in the village

of Lacock will be taking place today.

The National Trust's historic Tithe Barn will be

transformed into an ice house for the storing of

dead bodies, while a garage next to number 13 High Street

will become a blacksmith's, where gold bullets will be forged.

Crews have been in Lacock preparing since last week,

with the clear up set to last until Monday.

Preparation was due to run until 9 PM last night

to ensure that today's filming went without a hitch.

Filming is scheduled to run from 11 AM to 9 PM.

Huge blocks of ice will be loaded into the Tithe Barn, with a

cooling system in place to stop it from melting. Lighting

cranes, called genie booms, will be used to shine into the

barn to aid filming. A smoke machine will be used for effect

at both the Tithe Barn and the High Street garage.

Alternative parking for villagers has been provided in a field

next to the Red Lion pub and marshals are stationed in the

village to shepherd cars and pedestrians along East Street.

A sum of £5,000 has been donated by the film company to

Lacock Parish Council and the National Trust.  Residents

were also in line for a payout for the inconvenience.

The reason that the release date of The Wolfman has been

shifted from February 13, 2009 to April 3, 2009 is because

Universal wanted a few more months for its completion.

In a recent interview, actor Joseph R. Gannascoli

talked about working with Benicio:

"However, I did become friends with Benicio Del Toro from

the set [of the film Money For Nothing] which really helped

me get started in the business. Benicio also directed me

in a short film back in 1995, called Submission."

The set of The Wolfman at the Old Royal Naval College

is closed for the night shooting. That is when the fog

machines are used and some 150 costumed extras

are in place. The fog machines are not so much about

atmosphere as they are about obscuring all those

tell-tale signs of modernity such as cars,

blocks of flats and overhead aircraft.

Here are some more photos taken on the set of The Wolfman:

Filming The Wolfman at the Old Royal Naval College

involves no less than forty carriages, hackney cabs

and two omnibus, and at the back of the college

there is temporary stabling for 40 horses, plus there

are some 50 location lorries, generator vans,

trailers and wardrobe trucks.

For the last couple of days, most of the filming

of The Wolfman has been taking place in the evening

at Greenwich University. The first unit will be pulling out

soon. A lit-up theatre facade has been created on the

music school building across from the painted chapel.

It's all horses, carts and fog.

Technical trivia:

Steven Soderbergh filmed

Guerrilla with two RED beta prototypes,

"Mars" and "Bombay", in the steaming hot

jungles of Spain. Then he filmed The Argentine

in SoderScope. He used "Paris" and "Beijing",

two 25 pre-production cameras, and shot anamorphic.

Mr. Soderbergh had so much confidence in

RED resolution that he used only about 2.4K's worth

of RED, with a completely different look for each movie.

Argentinian Sebastián Paz worked as an extra

in The Argentine and Guerrilla. Mr. Paz taught

Benicio how to make mate.

Besides being one of the 200 extras in the films,

Mr. Paz shares one of the scenes with Benicio

drinking mate. In another scene, Mr. Paz plays

the guitar, for they asked him some Cuban song

classes and to thank him the production included

him in some shots.
