After attending the liberation of native Cotorras in the Forest Río Abajo in Utuado, actor Benicio Del Toro visited the community of Piñones where he expressed himself against the approval of the tourist and residential project Costa Serena.
"If Puerto Rico follows the way it goes now, it is going to be a cement song", said Del Toro after commenting that he does not want that Piñones becomes "another Green Island".
On several occasions before Del Toro has made public expressions on his position against the excessive construction and in favor of the environmental protection, and this time, just before they released Cotorras, he was disturbed by the news that the Meeting of Calidad Ambiental (JCA) approved of the Declaration of the Impacto Ambiental Final (DIA-F) that supports the construction of Costa Serena.
"The question is that they liberate Cotorras... but, where they are going to go these Cotorras" the actor questioned. "They make the airplane but they do not worry about the airport", he added.
During the activity "Cultural Bridge: From Africa to Piñones", celebrated in afternoon of yesterday in the facilities of the Committee Piñones Integra (COPI), the actor became echo of the community and affirmed that if it'd be necessary to write another letter to the Governor, he would write it next to the communitarian leaders.
"I feel that the first person that they have to listen is to is the people, to the person who lives where they are going to hit", commented Del Toro, who in addition understands that although "people either conscious and or are educated here of what is happening, this is affecting him a pile".
"I am going to do what I can. I believe that the position of mine is here to bring just a little bit of light, power to bring a moral base that can be happened to the Governor, so that it can help. It is necessary to try to struggle with what there is... If we must make a march in the streets, we are going to do this", he expressed.
In the morning of yesterday, the actor agreed with governor Aníbal Acevedo Vilá during the activity in Río Abajo. Although they did not count nor have the right space of time to talk, both decided to speak about the subject as soon as the Governor returns from his vacations, approximately within one week. "We were left that we are going to speak as soon as... he can. I am here visiting, he is working ".
The Oscar winning actor affirmed that, although he lives in the United States, the fact of being a Puerto Rican motivates him to be interested in the problems of his Country. "it interests me what it is happening here, I am not living here right now, but I listen to many things that motivate me to be present", declared Del Toro.
In addition, he confirmed that he has made approaches to several figures of cinema as much as to American politicians, so that they are united in this pro nature fight, among them, Edward James Olmos and Robert Kennedy, among others. |
