Benicio del Toro reclamó ayer al gobernador Aníbal
Acevedo Vilá que defienda la integridad de los recursos naturales del País y
se oponga a la construcción de tres megaproyectos turísticos y residenciales
propuestos en zonas de alto valor ecológico en el litoral norte.
En una
carta dirigida al mandatario, Del Toro le solicita que apruebe un
proyecto de ley que declararía reserva natural las 3,240 cuerdas de los
terrenos del Corredor Ecológico del Noreste (CEN) -donde se propone el
desarrollo de dos megaproyectos turísticos- y la preservación del barrio
costero Piñones, donde se planifica construir el proyecto tipo condo-hotel,
Costa Serena.
“El Corredor Ecológico del Noreste y el área de Piñones deben estar
disponibles para el disfrute tanto de los turistas como de todos los
residentes de la Isla”, dice el actor de 39 años en su misiva con fecha del
13 de noviembre.
“La propuesta construcción de varios proyectos de este tipo en el área del
Corredor Ecológico del Noreste y en Piñones son dos de las mayores amenazas
a la integridad natural de la zona costanera en nuestro archipiélago”,
añadió el actor.
Durante la pasada sesión legislativa, que concluyó el martes, la Cámara de
Representantes aprobó una medida para designar como reserva natural el CEN,
un área costera al noreste de la Isla en el que se han documentado sobre 40
especies raras, vulnerables y en peligro de extinción, algunas únicas de
Puerto Rico. El proyecto no fue aprobado en el Senado.
Entre Luquillo y Fajardo se ha propuesto la construcción de dos complejos, y
otro en Piñones.
El actor recomendó el desarrollo de proyectos ecoturísticos o de turismo de
naturaleza en estas zonas, una alternativa que, según explicó, fomentaría la
economía de estos sectores y conservaría sus recursos naturales.
Del Toro enfatiza que el desarrollo desenfrenado en detrimento de la
naturaleza “amenaza la base misma del desarrollo económico, así como de una
parte vital para el sostenimiento y la calidad de vida de todos los
residentes en Puerto Rico”.
Al concluir su carta, el actor expresa su interés en tener una oportunidad
para dialogar personalmente con Acevedo Vilá.
“Cuento con usted para lograr la aprobación del Proyecto de la Cámara de
Representantes 2105, designando al Corredor Ecológico del Noreste como una
reserva natural junto a su desarrollo ecoturístico. De igual manera, cuento
con su apoyo para proteger el área de Piñones y mantener así su carácter
natural y cultural por el que tanto se distingue”, concluye.

Protests the
protection of the Island's resources

Benicio del Toro protested yesterday to governor Aníbal Acevedo Vilá that he defends the integrity of the natural resources of the Country and that he is against the construction of three proposed large hotel and residential complexes in zones of high ecological value on the North coast.
In a letter directed to the agent chief executive, Del Toro solicits him that he approves of a law project that would declare natural reserve the 3.240 cords of lands of the Ecological Corridor of Noreste (CEN) - where sets out the development of two hotel complexes and the preservation of the coastal district Piñones, where it is planned to construct to the complex type condo-hotel, Costa Serena.
"The Ecological Corridor of Noreste and the area of Piñones must be available for the benefit as much of the tourists as of all the residents of the Island", the actor of 39 years writes in his letter with date of the 13 of November. "the proposed construction of several projects of this type in the area of the Ecological Corridor of Noreste and in Piñones are two of the biggest threats to the natural integrity of the costanera zone in our archipelago", added the actor.
During the last legislative session, which concluded on Tuesday, the House of Representatives approved a measurement to designate natural reserve the CEN, a coastal area on the Northeast of the Island in which there have been documented about 40 rare species, vulnerable and in danger of extinction, some only ones of Puerto Rico. The project was not approved in the Senate.
Between Luquillo and Fajardo one has seted out the construction of two complexes, and another one in Piñones.
The actor recommended the development of eco-tourism projects or of tourism of nature in these zones, an alternative that, according to what he explained, would foment the economy of these sectors and would conserve their natural resources.
Del Toro emphasizes that the wild development is in damage of the nature "threatens the same base of the economic development, as well as from one leaves for the vital support and the quality of life of all the residents in Puerto Rico".
When concluding his letter, the actor expresses his interest in having an opportunity to personally engage in a dialog with Acevedo Vilá.
"Story with you to obtain the approval of the Project of the House of Representatives 2105, designating to the Ecological Corridor of Noreste as a natural reserve next to its eco-tourism development. Of equal way, story with its support to protect the area of Piñones and to thus maintain its natural and cultural character by which it is much distinguished ", he concludes.
